Adult & Adolescent Counseling in Frederick, MD
As individuals, we all have unique journeys to experience in our lifetimes. Some of our experiences create a sense of joy and wellbeing, others are troubling. When troubling, it can be that something unresolved in our lives needs to be faced.
People experiencing life challenges sometimes have trouble figuring out why they are hurting. It’s a feeling of depression when you are stuck, not knowing what to do next to make your life happier and more meaningful. Everyone around you seems to be in a better place, but you just can’t figure out how to get there. Feeling this way is not uncommon, especially when you just can’t seem to let go of some unresolved problems from the past.
I recognize that when my Frederick area clients feel stuck, it is difficult for them to try new things or to do things differently. I understand that each person needs to make changes at their own pace. Being insightful about this, we can compassionately work and walk through this challenging time in your life, together, one step at a time.
Your life is composed of a unique series of experiences that shape who you are and how you see the world. Many of your experiences were positive and created a sense of joy and well being but others had a more negative influence and could have left you angry, sad, or perhaps even afraid. When we feel this way, it can become hard to let it go and get back to a more positive place. Often my clients describe their situations as “hopeless”, many times including post-traumatic stress, depression, and even anxiety. However, later through therapy, they realize they can learn to turn hopeless situations into manageable moments that help them grow.
When people experience life challenges, they realize their hurt and anger. In this state, you can feel isolated and distant from friends and family. Sometimes you might turn to unhealthy coping behaviors, such as drug use, excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, gambling, or other compulsions. These forms of “self-medication” to help change the way you feel don’t get to the real cause of the pain, and only make the problem worse. If you are challenged by any of these situations, I can help you get to the root cause of the pain and work with you to develop a healthier way to overcome past issues.
The quality of your life is all about you and how you feel about yourself. Answering the question, ” Should I seek professional help” involves courage. I believe you are an important and extraordinary person who deserves to find your direction for happiness and personal growth.
