Dear All Good Men,
Mark H. Butler, as recently as 2018, investigated the link between loneliness and pornography. Not temporary loneliness, but a research-based definition of “emotional signals of unsatisfied needs and security”. It begins as early as infancy—when strong attachments have not been established. Usually, the person who introduces or exposes pornography to a young or mature person is not emotionally available. What develops in the absence of that emotion paves the way for mechanical and visual stimulation as a mode of gratification alone. It’s an emotional struggle which becomes hard wired in the brain.
Pornography is not inherently bad, but has the potential to interfere with relationships. The origins of pornography date all the way back to the 1500s and are not as taboo as we have been led to believe. This group will focus on our journeys and struggles with this addiction, and provide a safe place for transparency.
